Term 4 : The world through the eyes of a ... Psychologist

This term we had to do three pieces about how someone else would see the world. I chose the Psychologist because I feel that so many people depend on them which tends to be a waste of money.

My mediums were black pen and water paints on canvas. I made my own canvas for the first time and enjoyed it to do it with my grandmother.

This is the first canvas I did and the main idea is the psychologist seeing the arms and hands of a frail, worn out girl pouring out a heart full of vibrancy and life. The colourful floor is a sign that this may be the office of a children's psychologist. The looker can interpret that being as this girl may have the innocence and naivety of a small child.

I enjoyed painting the heart as it was a challenge to show the different parts of the heart with only one shade of red. Initially the hands gave me some trouble because I didn't have reference photos to work off but in the end they came out like I intended them to.

This was my second canvas and I enjoyed doing it a lot as it was more of a spontaneous movement and mixing of colour rather than planning it out. It might be hard to see in the photo but the text says "Like the leaves of a tree changes with seasons, our minds change too and with the changing of the leaves as well as our minds, our hearts grow stronger like soil"

My third canvas is a very child like showing of the brain. It explodes with creativity even though we don't understand it and use it to its full potential. Many problems can be solved just by thinking like a child and from a young age this exact characteristic is driving out of our minds in an attempt to make us "accustomed to the real world". I think many psychologists try to bring back that way of thinking as to help the client in his or her life

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this project even though we got very little time to finish it. Water paint is something I'd like to work with more.

"Art is what you can get away with" - Andy Warhol

So rather than putting up a few quotes I decided to post a few art works by artists on deviant art. They inspire me and blow away my breath with every glance.

Flower by Aditya777
(http://aditya777.deviantart.com/)

Flower grabbed my attention with the vibrant use of orange and white. The orange is placed in such a way that it directs the eye to her rosy cheeks in her pale face. I adore the fine detail of the white lace as I'm a full-blown sucker for white elements. Her eyes seem to stare into the depths of your soul (dum dum duuuuuum -dramatic camera zoom-). All-in-all this piece is amazing and so is the rest of Aditya777's work. Go check it out!!

Beauty is only skin deep - RyanGonzales

Need I say much? This is amaziiiiing!! Seriously, if you don't like this I'm pretty sure I can find you a good psychologist. I'm joking, your head is fine. This piece pulls you to it and grabs you by the face. I'm especially moved by her eyes, mouth and nose. The use of colour is beautiful and has a certain..sparkle.

Term 3 project - A3 sized pen comic strip

At the start of the project my plan was to draw Merveille and Lauren. I wanted to draw a break-up story where the girl burns the boy with her super powers as the project was "my super sized school day at DF", but as we all know in art things never go as planned and my story changed tremendously nearing the deadline day.

My story didn't even stay a story but turned into a flash of different feelings and two entirely different people who are drawn towards each other.

The girl, Lauren, is shown to be a insecure girl who lives by her own rules and won't be moved by anyone in the way she's bending over to look at the rose in confusion. the side piece of the fire above the fingertip is to portray Laurens wild emotions.

Merveille is seen to be a romatic, well-mannered gentleman by the way he's standing upright and the giving of a rose. There's not much to say about this character as he's the typical stereotype of a man.

I enjoyed this project but don't think I'll be working with pen again any time soon XD

p.s, I probably said "I'm leaving art!!" 30 times in the making of the comic :P don't think I will though.

p.p.s, as you can see the planning and final differs a lot XD

It's your birthday today.
Happy birthday love, I hope you had a good day.

*I hope..
I hope for so much lately, mostly that she's good to you.
I hope that you're doing well*

Darling, you're 18 today.

Maybe I thought we'd still be together today.
I miss you so much but I could never tell you that.
I love you so much but even I stumble over the word.

You deserve all the gifts you got

*Yet I wish I could give you a gift.
I no longer know what you like
you've changed so much*

Today you're on everyone's minds

*I've forgotten you on rare occasions
I feel horrible when I think about you
Even worse when I think about the good memories*

Lots of love
*You have no idea how much*
Nancy
*please, remember me*

Art project, term 2 - A3 sized copy of a renaissance artwork

I really liked doing this piece because of the vibrant colours of her hair. In the beginning the paint was quite a challenge but I quickly opened up to it and I see it to be a success as it was my first time painting :)

Painting is a medium I'd like to explore more and use later on.
